The Durango Herald reports that Wolf Creek Ski Area in Pagosa Springs, Colorado will open this weekend.
As of this morning, they had received 12″ of snow at the summit and 8″ at mid-mountain.
Along with that, they received 5″ of snow on Monday.
If Loveland and/or Arapahoe Basin don’t also open this week or this weekend, Wolf Creek will be the 1st ski resort open in North America this season.
They will be open on Saturday and Sunday.
The resort has yet to announce which parts of the mountain will be open and how much lift tickets will cost.
This move catches us by surprise, as Arapahoe Basin or Loveland Ski Area are usually the first to open in Colorado.
The extended forecast is calling for additional snowfall Tonight – Thursday Night. Along with that, temperatures are forecasted to remain relatively cool, which will help preserve the snow pack. This is important, as Wolf Creek relies solely on natural snowfall to operate their resort.
The resort describes itself as “The Most Snow In Colorado.” Their original opening date was scheduled for November 2nd, 2018. If all goes to plan, they will be opening nearly 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
