Last Monday, May 11th, 2014, we were very fortunate to interview White Wolf owner Troy Caldwell.  He sat down with as we questioned him about his plans for developing his beloved White Wolf and the Squaw Valley-Alpine Meadows connect.  Once connected, these two resorts together would create largest ski resort in the USA at over 6,000 skiable acres.
- The existing White Wolf chair was built around 2007 and has never been finished.
Troy’s answers to our questions are fascinating and revealing. Â Troy hopes to connect Squaw & Alpine in 5 years from now and he will not be selling his property to KSLÂ (the owners of Squaw). Â

Good interview. The private land-use for permit reasons makes a lot of sense, and then allowing for a swath of land to be used for public connection between Squaw and Alpine seems reasonable and would certainly speed things up vs. trying to make the whole thing public. Hadn’t heard that side of it before.
thanks for doing this, Miles. last time you (/we) heard from Troy, he was saying the connection could happen as quickly as two-three years. do you have any sense for why that’s now looking more like five?
In the past, it sounded like the main challenge was permitting and environmental reports. Now, it sounds like the main issue is KSL and Troy coming to a signed contract agreement. If building starts within 2 years, I think that would be soon. Thanks.

Would love to know more about his plans to building a “luxury, private ski resort” serving the area. That seems to be a huge boiling point with any future agreement with KSL. Doesn’t that sound like a pretty capitalistic move?? He’d earn well-beyond $50 million if operating a successful, private cat skiing operation for rich people.
