Report from November 11, 2023
Today was ski day #279 on my way to 300.
I hiked up and skied Main Chute on 11,000′ Mt. Baldy at Alta, UT.
Every foot of the run was earned.
Despite taking 5-days off to chill in the Caribbean at a family reunion, I was still bushed…
I did have my best time of the month to the top though:Â 1 hour and 45 mins (which is one hellvua lot better than my very first day back to Utah on Nov 1, 2023 when I clocked 2 hours and 15 mins).
I was hoping the 7″ of snow this week would have helped shore up the entrance to Main Chute.
I was wrong…
The entrance was more heinous than normal.
I struggled down the entrance and it took me 2 mins and 22 secs to sketchily skidder my way down it.
Once in the chute, the challenge didn’t let up.
The chute was full of powder hummocks and rock-hard ice.
You’d skid out on the ice then hang up on a pile of stale powder.
It was tough skiing and it took all I had to ski the chute top to bottom.
On a good day, I can ski Main Chute top to bottom in under a minute.
Today it took almost 2 minutes…
Was still fun and was a great challenge.
I was stoked to chalk up ski day #279 on my way to completing my “300” project.
I have until December 8 to complete the project and I’m so close now.
This week will definitely be the hardest week for me.
I have 5 more days of grinding up and down Alta before ski resorts open and save me…
I have passes to Park City & Solitude and they’re both scheduled to open on November 17.
Fingers crossed they open on time.
Thanks, Utah!
