On February 16th, 2014, a snowboarder triggered a 2-4 foot deep avalanche in Northern Vermont at an elevation of about 2,300 feet above sea level. Â The incline of this slope was 23-36 degrees. Â The aspect of the slope that avalanched was East to East Northeast.
Many people don’t think about avalanches occurring on the east coast. Â It’s key that we all remember that avalanches can occur anywhere snow falls.
This avalanche was significant and certain could have buried and killed a human. Â It could also have easily carried a skier or rider into a tree or off a cliff causing serious trauma.
Lets all be careful out there, no matter where we are.
