Vail Resorts will begin paying its employees at least $10 per hour beginning September 26th, 2015 in all of the 8 states that they operate within.

In California, Vail will pay $1 over minimum wage.  In Wisconsin and Wyoming they’ll be paying $2.75 over minimum wage.  In Colorado they’ll be paying $1.77 over minimum wage.

“We are taking this step because it is incumbent on us to do the right thing for our employees as well as remain competitive as an employer.” – Robert Katz, CEO

During the peak of the ski season, Vail Resorts employs 25,000 people and up to 18,000 in Colorado alone.

The Federal minimum wage is currently set at $7.25 per hour.  29 states already have minimum wages higher than the Fed’s minimum wage.

This is a huge move in the US ski industry that hopefully sets a standard for other ski areas across the nation.  Go forth and thrive Lifties, Patrollers, and Snowmakers.

Vail Resorts’ North American ski areas include:

Vail CO, Beaver Creek CO, Keystone CO, Breckenridge CO, Heavenly CO, Kirkwood CA, Northstar CA, Canyons UT, Park City UT, Afton Alps MN, Mount Brighton MI.
