The Summit School District in Colorado has served nearly 150,000 packaged meals this school year through the Vail Resorts EpicPromise grant. The grant has also helped students with activities and education. Breakfast and lunch have been offered to students each day during the 2020-21 school year with zero cost to the district families.

Spokesperson Mikki Grebetz stated that Summit schools have used the EpicPromise funds to enable access for students to use outdoor equipment, books, and hands-on learning experiences. The grant also helps fund student activities like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, sledding, fat biking, and ice skating. Home literacy opportunities and paper book programs are also included in the grant.

Grebetz noted that the extra costs associated with additional labor and packaging have been challenging due to Covid-19. The funds have also enabled the district “to address inequitable systems and opportunities” such as “continuing education for marginalized populations.”
