US Olympic Gold Medal Skier Picabo Street Charged with Assault

Olympic gold medalist and former US Ski Team member Picabo Street, 44, has been charged with assault and domestic violence.  Authorities say she pushed her father down the stairs of a home in Utah in December.

Picabo told the police that she locked her 76-year-old father in the basement of a Park City, UT house after pushing him down the stairs, then called the police.  She claims that her father fought her and pulled her hair.  Police say Picabo’s 3 children witnessed the fight.

Her father, Roland, claims that Picabo got angry and started yelling after he accidentally hit her house with his car when trying to leave.  They both went into the house, then a physical altercation occurred, according to documents.

Roland claims that Picabo grabbed him by the shoulder and neck and pushed him down two flights of stairs.

Picabo Street won gold in Super G at the 1998 Winter Olymipcs and silver in the downhill at the 1994 Winter Olymipcs.  She also competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT.

Picabo was the first American woman to win the World Cup downhill season title in 1995, and she repeated as downhill champ the following season.  Picabo won 9 downhill races in her career.
