UPDATED: Which US State Had The Most Ski Resorts in 2022/23?

During the 2022/23 ski season, 480 ski resorts were in operation in the United States of America, a slight increase over the 462 the previous season. Of the 37 states with operating ski resorts, New York leads by an astounding number – 52 ski resorts operating in the state in 2022/23.

In 2021/22, only 36 states had operating ski areas. Last season saw the return of Cloudmont Ski Area in Alabama, which did not open in 20/21 due to the pandemic and did not return for 21/22.

Last season, 10 areas were re-opened: Cedar Pass, CA; Cloudmont Ski & Golf, AL; Cranor Ski Hill, CO; Granite Gorge Ski Area, NH; Mt. Waterman, CA; Plumas-Eureka Ski Bowl, CA; and Steeplechase Ski and Snowboard, MN.

Historic totals show us that the 1991/1992 ski season had 546 Resorts in operation, the most for the last 25 years.

22: Alabama, Maryland, Rhode Island, Tennessee: 1 (AL +1)
