Thredbo Ski Resort, Australia, announced that they received 10cm (4 inches) of fresh snow today and it’s still coming down, taking this week’s total snowfall count to 19cm (7.5 inches). Plus, experts have forecast more snow and cold temperatures over the next two weeks.
Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed riding non-stop fresh tracks in Thredbo today after snow kept falling throughout the entire morning. Snowmaking has also been going strong at the resort, with up to 173 snow guns firing for up to 12 hours each night this week.
Weather guru ‘the Grasshopper’ from Mountain Watch says Thredbo can expect to receive up to 15cm (6 inches) of fresh snow in the next 7 days. Jane’s Forecast says the resort could be in for up to 39cm (15 inches) over the next 10 days and Pete ‘the Frog’ Taylor from Snowatch is calling for up to 50cm (20 inches) over the next 15 days.
Additionally, colder temperatures are forecast to continue in the coming days, with a low of -6°C (21°F) tomorrow and then low temperatures hovering around-3°C (27°F) for the rest of the week. Below freezing temperatures provide the best possible opportunity for Thredbo to continue its strong snowmaking operations.
The fresh snow is expected to draw in some last minute visitation to the resort this weekend and across the next two weeks. Snow conditions are dry and chalky with lots of wind blown snow coming in from the Australian Main Range, which is ideal for skiers and snowboarders who like to wait for the peak snow period that August typically delivers.
Guests visiting this weekend can enjoy great skiing and snowboarding conditions in addition to a massive line-up of live music and entertainment. This Saturday night, White Claw Weekendis taking over Alpine Bar with a line-up of female DJs including Anna Lunoe taking to the stage to deliver more of Thredbo’s famous après entertainment.
