Construction is underway at Thredbo Ski Resort, Australia, for Australia’s first ever alpine coaster. The Development Approval (‘DA’) for the Thredbo Alpine Coaster was granted earlier this year.
The coaster will diversify Thredbo’s recreational offerings through the provision of a year-round all-weather rail-guided toboggan ride.
The coaster will be approximately 1.5 km (0.9 miles) in length with a mix of uphill and downhill tracks, a tunnel, bridges and circles that traverse through the alpine environment. Passengers are able to control their speed of up to 40 km/h (25 mph).
The Thredbo Alpine Coaster is planned to be in operation for Winter 2024. It will be a fun addition to Thredbo’s year round operations. Thredbo closed for skiing on Sunday, September 17, 2023, and operations will pivot to summer activities like mountain biking and hiking from November 18, 2023.
