A new parking garage at Canyons Village, which is pending approval to be built, looks like it will completely revitalize the guest arrival experience at Park City Mountain Resort. The new multi-level garage would consolidate and replace the available spaces in multiple surface lots throughout Canyons Village into a single covered facility. It will have multiple entrances to expedite the morning arrival experience and get guests on the snow faster. Overall, it is designed to improve accessibility and connectivity and create vibrant community spaces for the town.
The location will be on the southeast corner of the Lower Village Road and Frostwood Drive/Canyons Resort Drive intersection. The garage’s convenient location near transit locations, as well as S.R. 224, was strategically selected to make this the parking location of choice for day guests. Ideally, it will reduce congestion in the heart of Canyons Village, making access easier and safer for guests.
Amenities
Key features of the garage include the option for a new pedestrian plaza on the ground floor, providing plenty of space for gathering and easy access to transit options. Enclosed glass escalators will transport visitors between levels, operating to serve typical traffic flow patterns at different times of the day. The front of the garage will be covered in beetle-kill lodgepole pine, supporting sustainability and reuse. Additionally, the Cabriolet Lift (open-air gondola) will continue to transport guests to and from the main base area and the parking structure on that side of the mountain.
The capacity of the garage will be over 1,800 parking stalls. Since the garage takes uncovered spaces and makes them covered, it will eliminate the use of snowmelt, salt, and heavy machinery to remove snow. The builder is also pursuing the integration of electric vehicle charging stations to promote eco-friendly transportation options.
Timeline
The schedule for completing the project will be in three phases. Phase 1 addresses the immediate parking needs by building the garage. Phase 2 improves connectivity between the parking garage and transit center by creating a public gathering space including snow melted walkways, an elevated and upgraded transit center, public restrooms, and landscaping. Lastly, in Phase 3, the plan is to expand the public gathering space and commercial opportunities.
Pending approvals, including permitting by Summit County, it is anticipated that construction of Phases 1 and 2 will span 2024 and 2025, with the goal of completing the parking garage and pedestrian plaza in time for the 2025-2026 ski season. The timing of Phase 3 has not been determined.

There is also a virtual open house for the Canyons Village Parking Garage at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 20. The public is invited to see the project details and there will also be a question-and-answer session. You can register for the event here.Â
IIRC, currently parking in the Cabriolet lot is free. You can bet this new parking garage won’t be. Probably $25 to $40 bucks a day.
