Palisades Tahoe, California, just experienced rare June snow on the first day of summer, blanketing the mountain in white. The High Camp webcam (at 1:20 a.m. PST on June 22) still shows flakes falling.

The fresh snow arrived as the resort hosts major trail running events, including the Broken Arrow Skyrace and TrailCon. The 46K race was cancelled partway through due to challenging conditions, with only 163 of 553 runners finishing before organizers suspended the event and evacuated participants from the mountain. The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, set to begin next week, will also start amid lingering snowfields.

“Thereโ€™s no question that it was a rough day out there.

Of the 553 runners who started todayโ€™s race, only 163 were able to finish before we were forced to suspend competition and evacuate runners off the mountain. For those who were unable to finish todayโ€™s 46K, please know that we share your disappointment.”

While Palisades Tahoe is known for its long ski seasons, snowfall this late in June remains highly unusual.

Beyond running, Palisades Tahoe offers a variety of summer activities. Visitors can ride the aerial tram to High Camp for panoramic views, swim, roller skate, hike, and explore the Olympic Museum. The Village buzzes with live music, family events, and diverse dining, all set against the backdrop of Lake Tahoeโ€™s natural beauty.

Palisades Tahoe just celebrated its 75th anniversary, with a 185-day-long season that ended on Memorial Day. The resort saw 392 inches (9.95 meters) of total snowfall throughout the season, including 27 powder days with at least six inches of new snow in 24 hours. The deepest single-day totals reached 25 inches on both February 14 and March 13. It is around 150 days until opening day 2025-26, and with the year’s longest day behind us, the countdown begins.
