This snow report is for January 5, 2021, and is brought to you by Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows (SVAM).
After receiving a reported 21″ (inches) in 7 days, Squaw Valley, CA has just gone over the 100-inch mark for a great start to 2021. The resort reports that it has received a total of 102″ of snow so far this season. Nearby Alpine Meadows, CA is reporting a total of 98″ on the season thus far.
The storm on January 4th reportedly dropped 12″ of snow in 24 hours and 6″ in approximately 12 hours before Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows opened today, January 5th.
Strong winds of up to 136 mph were registered on the Siberia-Sierra Crest on January 4th, 2021 as the storm brought in heavy precipitation. Fortunately, the winds have died down today and as of this writing, the resort is reporting 8-10 mph winds out of the SW.
It is a sunny, bluebird powder day! It appears the only lifts not running at Squaw Valley today are Granite Chief, Olympic Lady, Silverado, and Broken Arrow. At Alpine Meadows, every lift is open with the exception of Sherwood, Lakeview, Kangaroo, and Alpine Bowl.
The forecast calls for a dusting or a few inches later this week and hopefully, more snow means more terrain opening at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows (SVAM).
