It may be mid-May, but people are still skiing at resorts throughout the country. It’s that time of the year when the die-hards come out to grab the last laps of the season and enjoy the warm weather and soft conditions. 15 resorts in the U.S. are still open, and two are located in Colorado.
Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park are the last two ski resorts operating in the Centennial State this weekend, and both just received fresh powder. Arapahoe Basin plans to stay open as long as possible, while Winter Park has announced that the last day of skiing and riding will be this Sunday, May 18.
Arapahoe Basin has reported seven inches of snowfall in the last 24 hours, with a base of 57 inches. Its current operations consist of 29 open trails, four lifts, and eight open zones. A-Basin has also shut down its parking reservation system, which means free parking for the remainder of the season.
Winter Park has reported nine inches of snowfall in the last 24 hours, with a base of 45 inches. The resort is going into its closing weekend, operating with 53 open trails and six lifts. To end the season, Winter Park plans activities at Jane Beach this Saturday, including laps, games, drinks, and giveaways.
Summer is approaching quickly and June is only two weeks away, which means the ski season is nearing its final turns. However, thanks toย recent storms that brought fresh powder to parts of Colorado, which should allow for great conditions for the end of the season. For those still chasing turns, this late burst from Mother Nature means prime conditions are still in play for those who have the chance to get out there.
