Snowboard movie season is upon us, but for now, trailers will have to do. Before we know it, the lifts will be spinning, and there’s no better way to get hyped for the winter than dusting off your gear and watching a few visually pleasing edits. Here are a couple of movies shed heads should be sure to keep an eye out for that are releasing this fall. Enjoy!
Red Bull Media & Ben Ferguson: Fleeting Time
The all-new trailer for Red Bull’s backcountry project with Ben Ferguson has been released for the long-awaited 2-year undertaking. Long-time halfpipe jock turned backcountry phenom Ben Ferg will make his directorial debut with Fleeting Time. With an all-star crew of friends along for the ride, he took to the road to chase storms across every corner of the globe.
The crew visited some of snowboarding’s most iconic locations, including Japan, Alaska, BC, and Wyoming, for this once-in-a-lifetime, multi-year project. Red Bull TV will premiere the movie in Ben’s hometown of Bend, Oregon, on October 1st at the Tower Theater, in addition to a full North American Tour. Fleeting Time will also play on Red Bull TV from November 3rd-9th. Whitelines Mag claims, “Not since the days of The Art of Flight has there been such a stacked lineup for a snowboard movie.”
Absinthe Films: La Zone
In the early 2000s, during the golden age of backcountry riding, David Vladyka and a handful of snowboarders discovered the Col de Cou and named it The Zone so nobody would find it. The backcountry zone was a major crossing point on the French-Swiss border used by smugglers after the Second World War. It played an important role in European freestyle snowboarding history.
Twenty years later, Mat Schaer and David Vladyka re-visit from time to time to film, but the immaculate slopes are becoming rare. The excitement of the great freestyle years has given way to hikers and ski touring. Though the story of the Zone is still being written, a new page is being turned. Absinthe will release the documentary at the end of November.
Ride Snowboards: Sincerely Yours
During the winter of 2021-2022, the Ride European team traveled heavily around the Alps, France, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, Finland, and Norway to stack clips in this aesthetically pleasing film. It features a talented roster of Euro shredders, including Severin Van Der Meer, Bastien Sturma, Maria Hilde, and more.
The full movie will be dropping online on December 13th. From Ride: “We are happy to present you the teaser of our full movie filmed with our European team! In this project, we met our local heroes at their homes to discover their vision and where their passion for snowboarding comes from.”
Coal Headwear: VÄLKOMMEN
Though it’s not feature-length, Coal released this very delightful short film this week. The team travels to ride the land of the midnight sun and finds that snowboarding is snowboarding no matter where you are in the world.
“Somewhere far north of the Arctic Circle, a remote outpost of snowboarding exists, a shining beacon of community amongst the tundra. For us, this place has only ever existed in old videos and magazines. But we were intrigued. So, we traveled over 4000 miles to experience this place for ourselves- and it felt like we never even left home.” – Coal Headwear.
