Sandia Peak Ski Area, near Albuquerque, New Mexico, has temporarily closed its slopes, with immediate effect, due to unseasonably warm temperatures and insufficient snow cover.ย The resort reopened last year following a two-season-long closure due to a lack of snow, difficulties in attracting employees, and a lack of interest from the owners
Resort officials announced that the ski area will remain closed until further notice, with the operations team closely monitoring weather conditions. They plan to resume snowmaking when temperatures drop.

The ski area opened for the 2024-25 season on December 28, 2024, and hasย been operating with limited terrain. The resort has received 44 inches of snow all season and has a base of six inches, which is 26 percent of the average.
Sandia Peak management has assured guests with pre-purchased tickets that the guest services team will contact themย regarding their bookings. The resort remains committed to reopening as soon as conditions allow, urging patrons to “think snow” and stay tuned for updates.
Despite the setback, Sandia Peak Ski Area looks forward to the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The resort introduced new season pass options and expanded operating hours earlier in the season.
Sandia Peak Ski Area, New Mexico’s first ski resort established in 1936, offers 35 trails across 200 skiable acres with a vertical drop of 1,700 feet. Located in the Sandia Mountains near Albuquerque, the resort features a base elevation of 8,678 feet and a summit elevation of 10,378 feet. It operates with four lifts (three double chairlifts and one surface lift), providing terrain for all skill levels, with 23% beginner, 49% intermediate, and 29% advanced runs.
