Durango, Colo. โ€” (May 20, 2025) โ€” As Purgatory Resort approaches its 60th anniversary in December 2025, the Southwest Colorado destination is investing more than $6 million in capital improvements ahead of the upcoming ski season. As part of ongoing capital improvements for the 2025โ€“26 season, Purgatory will expand snowmaking to include the bottom of Rayโ€™s Ridge, Blackburnโ€™s Bash and Legends Bypass. This investment will boost snow reliability, allow for earlier access to the backside of the mountain, and help keep this terrain open later into the season.

This announcement follows last monthโ€™s unveiling of a new fixed-grip triple chairlift and up to five new ski trails and connectors, which will break ground this summer. The new lift will provide direct access to advanced and expert terrain on the frontside without requiring a return to the Columbine or Village base areas, improving flow and saving time for both locals and visitors.

Additional improvements include upgrades to the alpine slide for summer, new HEAD ski and snowboard rental equipment, a new Prinoth Bison snowcat, expanded Wi-Fi coverage throughout the resort, and new HD streaming cameras for live mountain conditions. Guests can also look forward to an updated Purgatory app with improved maps and features, a refreshed Paradise Pizzeria, and ongoing ski trail and tree run summer grooming to remove ย brush and hazard trees to enhance the ย ski experience across the mountain.

โ€œThese improvements reflect our long-term commitment to the mountain and to the guests who return to Purgatory year after year,โ€ Dave Rathbun said, general manager of Purgatory Resort. โ€œAs we look ahead to celebrating six decades of skiing and riding in the San Juan Mountains, weโ€™re proud to invest in the future of outdoor recreation in Southwest Colorado.โ€

Purgatoryโ€™s 2025-26 Power Pass is available now, with prices set to increase after June 23. Purchasing early guarantees the lowest rate of the season. For the third year in a row, season pass prices have not increased, reinforcing Purgatoryโ€™s commitment to keeping skiing inclusive and accessible. Guests can choose from a range of pass products to fit every budget, with perks including the no-interest payment plan extended through December 2025 for lower monthly payments.

The Weekday Power Pass is the most affordable way to enjoy Purgatory this coming winter, which allows skiers to select their preferred weekday to access the mountain throughout the season. With 21 available skiable days, the current rate averages out to approximately $9 per day, making it one of the best values in the industry.

While construction gets underway on capital improvements, Purgatory is also gearing up for the start of summer operations on June 14, featuring signature events, on-mountain activities, weekly live music, and scenic chairlift rides.
