Powerful Avalanche Video From Europe Last Week

There has been a lot of talk surrounding avalanches of late.  Colorado is currently experiencing late season avalanche danger and tragedy.  Europe also went through a dangerous avalanche cycle with lots of new snow and high temperatures last week.  During last week’s avalanche cycle in Europe, most skiers stayed out of the mountains and did other activities such as rock climbing.

This video shows footage from a few rock climbers who happened to have their camera on when a large wet slide avalanche went full path all the way down to a river basin.

It looks as if this avalanche may have dammed the river for a bit.

This video is a good reminder that avalanches should always be in the back (or front) of your mind when you are in the mountains.  If there is snow, no matter the time of year, it could slide.
