Portillo, Chile Season Update Video: June, July & August

editor’s note:  Um…  Portillo has way sicker terrain than we thought it did.  Might be time to make a trip to Portillo…

We started out with a great start of the season with tons of snow in June but then it didn’t snow for about 3 weeks in July. The end of July we had three storms and conditions were amazing.  The best day of the season was a week and a half ago on Aug. 1st.  The day after we had a huge wind event and all of the new snow was blown away and we were left with the rock hard base.  Now we are in a freeze thaw cycle with hard snow early and soft spring snow the rest of the day.  Hopefully we will get some snow soon because it’s going fast.

The forecast for Portillo is showing no snow and high temperatures the rest of this week:
