After a warm and dry start to spring, winter has returned to the European Alps just as resorts are closing for the season.

Storms dumped up to two feet of fresh snow on ski areas with Bormio in Italy getting two feet, Verbier in Switzerland 20″, and Val d’Isere in France a foot, according to In The Snow.

50cm (20″) at Verbier, Switzerland.

However, with the snow comes increased avalanche danger which has caused a number of resorts to close or partially close areas of the mountain.

The snow is great news for those resorts that will be staying open through April and into May, such as Chamonix, Ischgl, Tignes, and Zermatt.
