A woman who drove her car into the Rideau River in Manotick, Ottawa, on Sunday has become an internet meme after being pictured taking a selfie from the trunk of her sinking car. At the same time, concerned onlookers risked their own lives to rescue her.
Residents along the river banks launched kayaks to come to her aid after her car left the road and went through the ice. Paramedics also rushed to the scene.
“Thankfully no injuries and an amazing job by local residents saving the driver by using a kayak and quick safe thinking”

Police charged the woman with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
