The mountain biking community is coming together to honor the life and legacy of Joel Alamo—a celebrated BMX and mountain biker whose influence extended far beyond the trail. Known not only for his skill and speed, Alamo was also widely regarded as a source of positivity, humor, and support within the biking world. Now, almost 250 people have signed a petition asking Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort, Colorado, to name a trail in his memory: “Remember the Alamo.”

Alamo’s impact on the sport was matched only by his strength in his final chapter. After a brave fight with cancer, he passed away in May 2024, leaving behind a community of friends and fans who continue to be inspired by his resilience and passion. To those who knew him, Joel wasn’t just another pro rider, he was a constant source of encouragement and a reminder of why so many people fall in love with biking in the first place.

The proposed trail name, “Remember the Alamo,” is more than a clever phrase. It’s a meaningful tribute that captures Joel’s enduring spirit and dedication. Petition organizers say it’s the perfect way to keep his memory alive in the mountains he loved.

Trestle Bike Park, located at Winter Park Resort, is one of the top lift-accessed mountain bike destinations in North America. With riders traveling from across the country and the world to experience its terrain. Supporters say it’s a fitting location for a tribute that could inspire generations of riders to come.

The Change.org petition, launched by friends and fans of Alamo, argues that this gesture would reflect the culture of camaraderie and grit that defines mountain biking. It notes the sport’s tremendous growth, with more than 50 million riders in the U.S. now participating annually. Naming a trail for Alamo would serve as both a personal tribute and a symbol of the community’s collective heart.

“Joel was incomparable,” reads part of the petition text. “His humor, talent, and dedication have left a lasting legacy. Let’s honor him in a way that will remain etched in the hearts of riders for years to come.”

While Trestle Bike Park has not yet responded publicly, support for the idea continues to grow. If successful, “Remember the Alamo” would stand as a permanent reminder that beyond the gear and the dirt, mountain biking is about connection, both to the trail, to each other, and to those we’ve lost but never forgotten.
