Canyons Village Management Association (‘CVMA’) and Historic Park City Alliance (‘HPCA’) are seeking Utah-based artists/artist teams to creatively decorate the interior of five inactive Gondolas and seven Snow Globes. The Gondolas will be stationed around Canyons Village at Park City Mountain, and the Snow Globes will be stationed around Park City’s historic Main Street. Both structures will invite guests to peer inside; those who do will be greeted by a magical scene created by a local Utah visual artist. Each Gondola and Snow Globe will have a QR code display on the exterior, giving guests access to artist information, and a map of the other Gondolas and Snow Globes throughout Park City.

Artists can submit applications for gondolas and snow globes of different structures and dimensions. Each Gondola will have a provided 60-inch x 69-inch plywood platform and each Snow Globe will have a provided 30-inch rotating base. The platforms and bases must be decorated with unique artwork. Ideal proposals for both Gondolas and Snow Globes will include:

  • Winter Olympic Legacy themes.

  • Element(s) of movement.

  • Festive Lighting is encouraged and welcomed (Basic interior lighting will be provided).

  • Hidden objects for guests to find as part of a Gondola & Snow Globe Art Stroll scavenger hunt (objects will be specified by CVMA and HPCA teams- this could include olympic rings, skis, and other Winter Olympic-themed objects, etc.).

  • Content appropriate for all ages.

A budget of $4,000 per Gondola/Snow Globe is inclusive of artists’ fees, materials, labor, insurance (artist agreement will require either worker’s comp insurance or waiver), and equipment to design and produce artwork, artwork installation, and travel costs including ground transportation.

The artwork install period will take place from November 18-21, 2024 with the launch date of November 22, 2024. Gondola artwork must be installed onsite at Canyons Village at Park City Mountain in Park City, UT. Canyons Village Management Association will provide selected artists with tents and electric heat sources during the install period. Snow Globe artwork must be installed onsite at locations along Park City’s Historic Main Street, Park City, UT. Snow globe fabrication will take place indoors in a fabricator warehouse.

The Gondolas and Snow Globes will remain at Canyons Village and on Main Street until April 2025, at which time they will be decommissioned and the artworks will be uninstalled by CVMA and HPCA.

Any artist or team of artists interested in creating designs driven by the project goals, to be completed in November 2024, may produce a proposal in accordance with the guidelines provided below. Artist(s) must be a resident of Utah State, and preference will be given to artists who are residents of Summit County, UT. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, October 16. Interested artists must also email required application materials via email to thea@pcscarts.org. For more information, visit the Arts Council Park City & Summit County website.
