Report from New Year’s Day, 2023
Brought to you by Vail Resorts
I stumbled out of bed at 7:45 am, threw my gear together, and got out there on New Year’s Day, 2023.
Park City Mountain Resort, UT was reporting 14″ of new snow, and I think over a 30″ storm total.
I was hoping that people would be too hungover to get out early.
I was wrong.
I got in line at the Orange Bubble chair and waited until 9 am.
I was a ways back in line, but not too bad.
At the top of the chair, a rope kept us out of the Sun Peaks & Super Condor zone.
We waited an hour before the zone opened as ski patrol cleared the avalanche danger.
The ski down in a foot of snow on groomers was as cruisy as can be.
The woods off Sun Peaks were a hoot & a challenge with downed trees, logs, stumps, and dense forest.
The wide-open south faces off Super Condor were deep.
After five great powder runs, I was satisfied and headed home at about noon.
It was nice to get out and ski deep snow, especially considering Little Cottonwood Canyon, Alta, & Snowbird were closed for the day.
