Palisades Tahoe, California, announced that it will open Sherwood on Friday, January 26. From Friday, it will operate daily, weather and conditions permitting. Snow conditions are extremely thin in this area, but in an effort to expand its available skiable terrain, the resort decided to move forward with opening.
Sherwood will have no grooming except for the maze. This means that if you are going to ski or snowboard in this area, you need to be aware of your surroundings. No beginners should attempt this terrain in these “low-tide” conditions.
The caveat with opening Sherwood in these lower snow conditions is that Palisades Tahoe Mountain Operations cannot say how long the opening will last. Mountain Operations crews will do their best to make it last as long as possible, but the area needs significant snowfall in order for Mountain Operations to maintain these runs.
TERRAIN PARKS
Palisades Tahoe will be posting regular updates on the state of its terrain parks. Jacy Lentini, Palisades Tahoe Terrain Parks supervisor, updated yesterday on Tiegel and Belmont Terrain Parks:
BELMONT
- Moons Battleship rail
- 3-pack of jumps featuring a first jump at approximately 20ft, followed by 30ft & 35ft
- Small step-up jump to wall ride to zipper rail, following the 3-pack. The Terrain Parks crew will add variety to the jump line with an option to hit some steel after catching air.
- Volcano bonk
- Fun table tops & small hits in the Progression side of the park.
- The brand new J rail was just added, as well.
TIEGEL
- Pole jam to bank coping rail
- Medium size hip
- 5-pack of tabletop jumps that are fun for all skill levels.
WEATHER OUTLOOK
“Overall I’d expect partly sunny skies through Saturday with some clouds, and then mostly sunny for Sunday – Tuesday. Highs into the 40s for the weekend, and then into the 50s for the lower elevations near the base for early next week as high pressure strengthens over the West.”
Bryan Allegretto’s forecast for the weekend. Read more in our Weather Blog.
Further out, there is snowfall in the forecast for January 31 through to February 3, but it is too far out now to call any significant snowfall totals.
