Tahoe has received 13 feet of snow since the beginning of january. Â It snowed a bit, then it dumped 7 feet, then rained like hell, and finally nuked another 5 feet. Â Its been blowing up… but strangely, there hasnt been much skiing going on the past couple days.
Due to the extreme loading of the snowpack over a relatively short period of time, the backcountry is far too unstable to even consider venturing out into. Â Also, many of the resorts are closed due to getting TOO MUCH SNOW! Â what an awesome problem to have, right? Â Well, out of anticipation and creative boredom, a friend of mine (John) and I decided to have a little fun off some low angle roofs.
It all started with this one multi roofed mansion that was just asking to be sent BC pillow style. Â Once we sent that, it was clear that climbing and hucking houses was all we were going to do that day until out legs gave out from boot packing through waist deep snow.
We went back with snorkels to send some roof again the next day after another 2 feet of snow over night, but it had gotten warm. Â The snow turned into this 4′ deep munk that was nearly impossible to actually land and ride away from. Â We still had a blast sending fatties to flatties and getting virtually buried in the bomb holes (hence the snorkel). Â Hope you enjoy the video!
Can’t wait until the resort opens tomorrow to send some proper lines! Â Cheers to a face full of snow!
This whole sequence is just incredible! What fun! What craziness!!!
