New Zealand Report: Mild Temperatures Affecting Resort Opening

New Zealand Resorts are wrangling warmer than hoped-for temperatures as opening dates for skiing and snowboarding inch nearer.

Mount Hutt, intending to open for operations today, opted to instead to look to tomorrow—which allows snowmaking experts to continue to work their magic.

To the south, Cardrona Alpine Resort reports intention to open a portion of ski able terrain tomorrow, June 15.

Other mainstay South Island ski areas, Treble Cone and Ohau Snowfields are working double-time in preparation for season openers on June 28 and 29, respectively.

Turning to epic North Island terrain, mighty Turoa reports an opening date at end-June while Whakapapa opens in stages. Happy Valley is projected to open late June, Upper Mountain by mid-July.
