Powder mountain was first opened in 1971 with only one chair lift – Sundown ski lift. The area was lit for night skiing and a ski school was established. Food was prepared on an outdoor barbecue. The Main Lodge, the Sundown Lodge and the Timberline lift were added to operations for the 72/73 season.
Hidden Lake lift was added in 1975 and was replaced by high speed quad in 2005. By 2015-2016 ski season, the resort already had four chair lifts and three surface lifts.
Last October the resort announced an addition of new ski lifts which should be open in mid-December.
Eden, UT – Powder Mountain Resort is excited to announce the addition of two new lifts accessing over 1,000 acres of new terrain adjacent to the core of our future town for the 2016-2017 winter season. This is the largest lift-serviced resort expansion in North American history. Additionally, the resort is capping season and day passes which will increase the amount of acreage per skier, making Powder Mountain the largest and most spacious ski area in the United States.

The Mary’s lift and Village lift were just opened a week ago! The lifts now allow access to Mary’s bowl and Lefty’s Canyon, which give you acres of powder areas, including bowls and tree skiing.
We were lucky to ride the new lifts on December 29th, just a few days after its opening!
What makes the Powder mountain special? Historically the resort has been known for its adventure skiing, uncrowded slopes and expansive terrain. In addition to the largest expansion of a US ski resort in history, Powder Mountain is also announcing the capping of adult season passes at 1,000 and total day passes at 2,000 daily, enabling a skier density less than 10% of what is found at comparably sized resorts.
And that’s true! You can ski uncrowded slopes and bowls even during Christmas/New Year Holiday! Aren’t it amazing? Add here a very friendly staff who always eager to help you to orient yourself in the large terrain or offer guide service. Besides plenty of groomed runs resort is offering cat skiing as well as enormous areas of powder country skiing in the untracked backcountry terrain. Just follow the sign “Powder Country”, enjoy backcountry skiing down the canyons! And you can then catch a shuttle service down there which will bring you back to the resort!
