On March 2nd, Mt. Baker ski area in Washington recorded its 500th inch of snowfall this season. Since then, they’ve gotten 15 more inches of snow bringing them to the numbers below:

- 515″ of snowfall this season
- 2nd biggest snowfall total in North America this season behind Alyeska (702″)
- 3rd deepest snowpack in North America
NOAA and more forecasted a low precipitation, warm year for Mt. Baker & the PNW.
Now that we know Baker has broken 500″ of snowfall and it’s only early March, we can defiently say: “You were way off, NOAA.”
I think we all know how tough it is to keep snow out of the PNW.
And next winter will like be a Strong La Nina!
Do you know what happens at Mt. Baker during a strong La Nina? Well, the last strong La Nina in 2010/11, Baker got 857″ of snowfall and a cover in Powder Magazine the following year…

A number of mountains down in California are also closing in on or surpassed the 500 inch mark as well! Great year to be a skier!!
