Mount St. Louis Moonstone is a family-owned Ontario ski resort north of Barrie. The resort is just over one hour from Toronto and is just off Highway 400. Although the hill is relatively small, it has been extensively built out and is known to have hands-down the best terrain park in the province. It is also known for its impressive lift capabilities, with 12 lifts, three of which are high-speed six-packs and one high-speed eight pack. Mount St. Louis Moonstone is looking to bolster its lift capabilities by adding another lift scheduled to debut for the 2025-26 season.
Mount St. Louis Moonstone announced the installation of a brand new Doppelmayr 6-CLD chairlift, scheduled to debut for the next season. This new high-speed six-pack will replace two of the resort’s most storied lifts: the Poma Easy Street Triple and the BM Outback Quad. This new Doppelmayr 6-CLD, Mount St. Louis Moonstone’s second D-Line lift, will significantly increase uphill capacity from 1,800 and 2,400 people per hour, respectively for the Poma and Quad, to 3,000 people per hour for the new six-chair. The chairlift will feature a direct drive electric motor, heated seats, ergonomic design, manual lock, child-friendly safety bars with footrests, and a loading carpet for young skiers and riders.
Mount St. Louis Moonstone was founded in 1964 and is home to Canada’s first eight-pack chairlift. The mountain has 36 slopes and award-winning terrain parks, making it an excellent destination for skiers and snowboarders searching for a mountain close to the Greater Toronto Area. The Poma Easy Street Triple was installed in 1991 and the BM Outback Quad in 1997. “Our goal is to stay ahead of the curve, investing where it matters most—on the slopes,” Andre Huter, Operations Director, said in a Facebook post. “This new lift is not just about speed, it’s about guest experience, comfort, and continuing to build on the legacy of innovation that’s been our family’s foundation since 1964.”
To support this major upgrade, Mount St. Louis Moonstone will undertake 100,000 meters (328,084 feet) of earthworks, including a 5-meter (28-foot) elevation increase to the mountain itself. According to the resort’s social media post, this will further enhance the guest experience by optimizing the top and bottom terminals for better flow and accessibility.

The new six-pack lift will be named The Elfriede Huter Express in honor of Elfriede Huter, the wife of Josl Huter, the founder of Mount St. Louis Moonstone. “Our family is already calling it by her nickname, ‘Elfie’! It’s a nickname that was coined by our dad, Josl. He’d lovingly tease her as she buzzed around the resort, making sure everything was just right,” Huter said.
