Monterosa, Italy Conditions Report: Closing Week = Powder Week

Monterosa ski resort in Alagna, Italy had a wild last week of operations with around a meter (3′) of new snow, sun, closures, and the best powder day of our trip.

Wednesday:  We got one glorious powder run in sunshine, then it socked in and we skied fun snow in the fog before venturing out on one big, long backcountry run in the fog.  

Thursday:  The Alagna side of the ski resort was closed for the day so we auto-toured some indescribable Italian mountain towns and watched our buddies kayak class 5 rapids.

Friday:  The best powder day of our 3-week trip.  We harvested perfect powder off the chairlifts for a few runs before venturing out on a 6,00-vertical-foot backcountry run.  We then headed back up and did 3 more chutes off the chairs.

Saturday:  We climbed up to about 12,000′ and skied all sorts of conditions before cruising groomers and having terrific pizza and spritzers at the top of the hill.

Sunday:  Overcast and firm.  Groomers.  Snowing 2nd half of the day.

Monday:  Monterosa ski resort closed for daily operations.  Open weekend until May 6th.
