A powerful snowstorm has delivered a stunning start to the 2025 Australian ski season, dumping 65 centimeters of fresh snow across Perisher over the King’s Birthday Long weekend. Combined with ideal snowmaking conditions, the early-season blizzard has allowed the resort to announce the opening of major lifts earlier than expected.
The Perisher Quad Express will begin turning this Thursday, June 12, servicing guests up to the mid-station. Just a day later, the Leichhardt Precinct, including the Leichhardt Quad Chair, will also open to the public on Friday, June 13. Following these openings, Saturday, June 14, will see the opening of Smiggin Holes and Calf T-Bar at Guthega, which means three of the four areas at Perisher will be open. “This storm has kicked the season into high gear, and we’re just getting started,” Perisher said in a statement. “Our team is working around the clock, and we’ll continue to open more terrain as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
Perisher, Australia’s largest ski resort, spans four resort areas—Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes and Guthega—and is known for its extensive lift network and early-season accessibility. With more snow and cold temperatures forecasted, the resort is expected to expand terrain offerings rapidly. Currently, only four lifts are operating: the Village-Eight Chair, the Mitchell t-bar, and two magic carpets. Only the terrain on Front Valley is open for skiing at this moment, but crews are working hard to add terrain.
For those looking to lock in the Epic Pass for the season, the time is now, with the Epic Australia Pass on sale only until June 18. “With early season conditions this good, you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out,” the resort added. Perisher’s early opening sets a strong tone for the rest of the 2025 snow season in New South Wales, which typically runs through early October.
