Report from May 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 2025

The past week at Mammoth has been fire.

Groomers are good.

Wiggles are good, and new ones are forming all the time.

Bumps are good.

Off-piste skiing is exceptional—especially on Cornice & Chair 23.

I’ve been riding my new e-dirt bike to the mountain each day, and it makes every day a dual sport day as I’m able to ride on empty dirt roads to Chair 2.

So damn fun…

We’ve been going hard at the hill because it’s been so fun, but it’s also unhelpful in a way because these are supposed to be our rest days…

Ha!

This is how we usually move on the mountain:

  • The mountain opens at 7:30
  • Right away, the Cornice groomer is usually just soft enough, as it gets very early morning light
  • Usually by lap 3 or 4, the corn-groomer is perfect
  • If Cornice is a bit firm, it’s wise to start the day on Chair 3 or Chair 5 (closed now)
  • Chair 5 can be unreal when it’s just right in the morning
  • If everything is hard (like on May 18) for a while in the morning, definitely go for Chair 2 as it gets light and is low
  • Once the groomers get slushy, it’s time to check Cornice off-piste (under the gondola) or Chair 23’s Drop Out
  • Cornice & Drop out are epic run,s and Drop out is ni,ce as if you don’t wanna do the whole messy bump run to the base, you can cut out and hit the groomer to the right
  • At 11 am, the racers give up the race course on the upper mountai,n and you can get some of the sweetest springtime groomers you’ve ever had
  • At this point, the whole mountain is generally so,ft and we often keep lapping Chair 23 and we bump into Wipe Out as it softens
  • The park is now an option as well, but there haven’t been any medium (read normal) sized jumps – just huge pro jumps and baby jumps
  • If you like rails, they have a myriad
  • The mountain closes at 2 p,m and we usually quit a bit before that
  • Oh, no, the mountain closes at 1 pm
  • Mammoth will be open daily until June 15 – go get some before it’s gone!
  • It’s so good right now…

  • Swimming
  • Hot Springing
  • Golfing

  • Hiking
