Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, is set to blur the lines between winter and summer again, announcing that its Solstice Sessions event will return June 21 with a record-breaking mound of farmed snow. One of North America’s snowiest this winter, the resort has sealed away 128,000 cubic feet of snow–about 40% more than last year’s stash–ensuring that skiing and snowboarding will headline the summer solstice festivities at Stateside.
Now in its second year, the Solstice Sessions promise a multisport spectacle where winter and summer collide. Attendees can expect live music, skateboarding, a full slate of activities, and the rare opportunity to ski and ride in late June. Jay Peak’s unique approach to snow farming involves stockpiling and insulating snow from the winter season, allowing the resort to offer on-snow experiences long after the lifts have stopped spinning for most of the East Coast.
This year’s expanded snow mound reflects a winter of abundance for Jay Peak. The resort, renowned for its prodigious snowfall, reported 470 inches this season, surpassing most Western resorts and reinforcing its reputation as the snowiest destination in the East. The extra snow has allowed organizers to scale up the Solstice Sessions, promising more terrain and bigger features for participants.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at the Stateside base area. Organizers encourage guests to bring their skis, snowboards, and skateboards for a day celebrating the best of both seasons. More information can be found on the Jay Peak Resort website.
