Warm temps and spring conditions have prevailed over the last few weeks, thankfully with the heavy snow we received early in the season our base is still holding in there. Spring is all about timing when it comes to skiing, too early and it’s bulletproof, too late and it sticky slush, but when you find the right balance conditions can be incredible. In the resort area groomers and been firm and fast in the mornings. All the snow has been getting softer as the day goes on and the temperature climbs, allowing off piste runs like the Hobacks to hold great corn skiing by mid day. It has been perfect weather for going on long tours in the National Park and skiing long corn runs. There was a period over the week where temps were not getting below freezing at night which elevated wet avalanche conditions, but it seems like that has passed and there is even SNOW IN THE FORECAST!!
WIGGLE MANIYA! A phenomena not seen at many other resorts, Wiggles have been popping up all over the place. These banked slalom like rutted out courses come not from digging out turns with shovels, but repetitive turns by a large volume of skiers and snowboarders. The most oblivious wiggle starts off the Tram in Rendezvous Bowl, the Workers Wiggle as it’s known in Jackson always seems to set itself when the snow is not falling and spring conditions exist. There are many other wiggles over the mountain, under Marmot lift, next to the half pipe, and in between Sublet and Thunder lifts to name a few.
