Hotham Alpine Resort in the state of Victoria in Australia, announced today that it will be closing Heavenly Valley for the season. Heavenly Valley is located in the heart and center of Hotham Alpine Resort and features the steepest terrain of the resort with several black diamond runs. Unfortunately the recent lack of snowfall combined with above average temperatures has eroded the area’s snow base. The remaining snow will be ‘recycled’ and moved to Slalom Gully.
“After 68 days and countless hours of grooming and snowmaking operations, we will be closing Heavenly Valley for the season. With warm temps and rain, we can no longer safely keep it spinning. Snow currently on the slopes in this area will be pushed down to Slalom Gully to ensure we can keep the Village Loop running as long as possible, and we remain committed to keeping as much terrain open, as safely as possible, for as long as we can throughout our final month of operations. There were some great days on HV this season and we hope you managed to score some of those days!”
Hotham is an upside-down resort with the village on top of the mountain, allowing for some stunning sunrises and sunsets from your lodge. It is located in the Victorian Alps of the Great Dividing Range, approximately a 4.5-hour drive from Melbourne CBD. Hotham boasts 320 hectares of inbounds ski terrain with 13 chair lifts, 3 terrain parks, and 35km (22 miles) of cross country skiing. There is also extensive access to the backcountry with cat skiing offered.
Hotham is part of Vail Resorts and Epic Australia Passholders have unlimited access to this Victorian gem.
