Brought to you by Grand Targhee Resort

Report from Monday, February 1st 2021

Grand Targhee was among the club of lucky ski areas across the West-Northwest to receive a healthy helping of snow over recent days.

Rather than a single, crash-bang nuke session, Targhee’s side of the Tetons benefited by a swirly salt’n pepper schlacking that actually began the previous Thursday and spread through Saturday.

The result was–and is–all around stellar conditions for shredding. Wind effect did well to top-up the tracks laid over the weekend (especially on those soupy, howler days). And the cool air currents plus cold overnights have kept the snowpack consistency very workable, meaning good turns remain even after the weekend crowds.

As per usual, the Grand Targhee trees skied delightfully. To tuck super tight in-between the trunks often found an untouched powder reward. But even the aprons around the groves themselves yielded nothing but chalky, push-able surfaces.

Mary’s is open, and views–as well as drops–from that nipple never disappoint. In fact, while the zone is hardly a secret, it is always a pleasant surprise to re-realize how solitary it can be up there. It’s a treat that sits extra sweet on those days when crowd volume dominates Targhee’s lower zones.

To hear the storm chasers say it, Grand Targhee can expect another face check from Old Man Winter as early as mid-week. It’s the sort of forecast this resort is famed for and gives everyone a little something to look forward to.

Here’s to the best of turns for all those buddies out skiing the Tetons, see you at the ‘Ghee.
