In an effort to better understand and address housing challenges across the greater Lake Tahoe region, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) have extended the deadline for their regional housing needs survey to June 30, 2025. The online survey, available in English and Spanish, is part of an updated housing needs assessment that covers the entire Lake Tahoe Basin and the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District boundary, including parts of eastern Placer and Nevada counties and the Town of Truckee.
Organizers are seeking input from a wide cross-section of the communityโlocal residents, seasonal workers, in-commuters, and even those experiencing homelessness. Survey responses will inform housing strategies and help regional partners address growing concerns around affordability, overcrowding, and housing proximity to work.
โThe analysis also breaks down housing needs by location, unit size, and income level,โ Kristina Kind said, program director at TTCF. โBy comparing this data to our 2016, 2021, and 2023 assessments, we can better understand how needs have shifted and which populations are most impacted.โ
Previous assessments have contributed to the creation of the Mountain Housing Council, supported the launch of 15 regional housing programs, and guided local and state policy recommendations. This yearโs effort marks the first time the assessment will fully include Truckee, North Tahoe, and the entire Lake Tahoe Basin in a unified survey. Results will feed into local and regional planning efforts, including TRPAโs Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin initiative.
The anonymous survey takes just a few minutes to complete and is open to anyone who lives or works in the region. The link is available at: www.ttcf.net/housing-needs-assessment-survey-2025.
Final results will be shared publicly on the TTCF and TRPA websites.
