Extreme Skier Oliver Kern Aims for 100-Lift Record in Swedish Resort

Oliver Kern, the German extreme skier and founder of Skiresort.info, is set to attempt a new world record on February 11 at the Sälen ski resorts in Sweden. Kern plans to ride at least 81 different ski lifts in a single day, with an ambitious goal of surpassing 100 lifts.

The current record, set by Kern in 2009, stands at 70 lifts in one day. This feat has remained unbeaten for 16 years, but Kern is determined to push the boundaries once again.

Sälen, Sweden’s largest ski area, provides an ideal setting for this challenge. The region boasts 104 ski lifts operated by SkiStar, spread across Lindvallen, Högfjellet, TandÃ¥dalen, and Hundfjället ski areas. The resort’s mix of modern 8-seater and 6-seater chairlifts and numerous family-friendly lifts offers Kern the variety needed for his record attempt.

Kern’s day will begin at 7:30 a.m. in Stöten. He will then take a whirlwind tour through Hundfjället, TandÃ¥dalen, Högfjellet, and Lindvallen. If time allows, he plans to stop at Lindvallen’s unique ski-in McDonald’s. The final ride is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the Gustav Express, an 8-seater chairlift manufactured by Doppelmayr.

This record attempt is part of Kern’s larger 2024/25 season goal. By season’s end, he aims to have skied in 1,000 different resorts across 35 countries and six continents while also setting a personal record of over 8,400 ski lifts and cable cars ridden.

Kern’s passion for skiing has driven him to numerous achievements. In 1998, he founded Skiresort.info, the world’s largest ski resort test portal. Since then, he has authored over 500 test reports and collected over 25,000 ski passes.
