Even as the snow started falling in Tahoe, I made my way east to Utah to continue in my search of snow, and I was not disappointed in any way today at Alta. The snow started out slow this morning, a dusting on some very firm snow. However, by noon the snowfall rate increased, as did the stoke factor. Alta was all-time today, that is for someone who has been skiing Squaw all winter, with blower pow in every nook and cranny around the mountain and plenty of faceshots of that famous dry Utah powder. With blower pow all over the mountain, and practically no one out, it made for one of the best days of the season.
Close to 6” fell up high on top of a nasty crust layer, however with no one around the turns were killer. First thing this morning the groomers were ripping, skiing fast and fun as we waited for the storm to deliver. High Boy had the best snow of the day, with faceshots almost every turn till around half way down. The Greeley area was also holding some great snow, with Keyhole Gulch and Glory Hole literally untracked until around 1:30 or so. Lines off High Traverse were skiing well, as was just about anything on the mountain. Fun lines were lurking everywhere if you took the time to poke around, something no one was doing. While what did fall was not enough to cover the nasty crusty layer currently lurking at Alta, it is a great start as more snow is expected through the week. Sorry about the lack of action shots, solo shred mish today.
looks like a great day. more like 3inches up top though (don’t want the whole SLC valley to come up tomo)
