Report from January 31, February 1, February 2, 2025
On Friday morning, I woke up in Butte, Montana, after a two-day drive home from BC.
Butte once supplied the USA with 25% of its copper.
Everything is brick and old-mine-town feeling.
I left town at 6:30 am and drove south to Park City, UT.
I stopped at home, ate, suited up, and headed for Deer Valley.
The runs were firm and fast and fun and warm.
It was nice to be warm after 1 month of single digits temps in BC.
I lapped Steins Way off the Sultan Chair and had a blast.
I came back on Saturday afternoon for more.
It had snowed a little bit and the groomers were still firm and fast but with little hummocks of snow that the skiers had swept into piles.
Again, Steins Way all day.
And some Edgar’s Alley that had very good, grippable, groomed snow on it.
I just happened to show up right when the sun poked out of a small storm that was hitting the mountain that day.
I went right back up there today after a brutal F45 exercise class.
In the rain.
This storm was warm and it was raining right to the top of 9,337′ Bald Mountain.
What people may not know is that skiing in the rain is very good.
The chairlift rides can be rough, but the snow is always soft and supple.
I met JR on the Deer Valley East Village shuttle and skied a few laps with him and Harrison the Liftie.
Stein’s Way was the best it had been all weekend!
Soft, smooth, fun, empty.
Not many out there today.
All in all, it was a great weekend with no lift lines, no traffic, good times, and happy people.
Thanks, Utah!
The bubble chair images are of Keetley not Hoodoo.
Thank you!
