People at San Francisco’s Baker Beach were confronted with a stomach-turning sight on Tuesday when a dead humpback whale washed up on the shore. Beachgoers are being warned to stay away from the whale’s corpse, ABC 7 News reports.

On Tuesday, scientists with theย Marine Mammal Center performed a partial necropsy on the female juvenile whale. Scientists say it’s unknown at this time what led to the whale’s death but should have more information when the final necropsy report is completed, according to ABC 7 News.
