Crested Butte Mountain Resort, CO, wrapped up an incredible summer season on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Guests enjoyed one last weekend of hiking and mountain biking through the fall foliage before the mountain shuttered summer activities for the season. The resort is now pivoting to winter operations and announced, that it is planning to open for the winter season on November 22, 2023.
With 561 acres of double-black-diamond terrain, Crested Butte is known as the North American birthplace of inbounds extreme skiing and riding. Advanced and extreme terrain account for nearly two-thirds of the mountain’s overall acreage, but there is plenty on offer for beginner skiers, too. The Peachtree lift was opened two winter seasons ago and services the beginner terrain, so skiers and riders of all levels can feel inspired to choose their challenge and find their stepping stone to the steeps of Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
While the resort may now be closed, the fall colors are just beginning to peak, so if you want to catch a glimpse of the beautiful fall leaves, book into one of their lodging properties which are open for leaf-peeping season.
Crested Butte will host the 50th annual Al Johnson Memorial Telemark Race in March 2024. In this beloved local event, in which racers don their best costumes and Telemark gear and climb up the mountain before racing 1,200ft down Crested Butte’s famed extreme terrain.
