  1. The atmosphere and its albedo reflect away 30% of the incoming solar energy making the earth cooler. Remove the atmosphere and the earth gets hotter. Radiative GreenHouse Effect theory claims exactly the opposite.

That the earth without an atmosphere would be similar to the moon, blazing hot lit side, deep cold dark, is not just intuitively obvious, but that scenario is supported by UCLA Diviner lunar mission data and studies by Nikolov and Kramm (U of AK).

This actual and indisputable fact negates, refutes, guts and tosses RGHE theory straight onto the long established rubbish heap of failed scientific theories together with Vulcan, phlogiston, Martian canals, luminiferous aether, spontaneous generation, tabula rasa, phrenology and cold fusion.

No RGHE, no CO2 warming, no man caused climate change or global warming.

Since the earth is actually hotter without an atmosphere, radiative greenhouse effect goes straight into the historical trash bin of failed theories and all the handwavium, pseudo-science, thermodynamic nonsense pretending to explain it follows close behind.

    1. Yes, there is! On a desktop, there’s a search icon top right, next to our social media buttons. And on mobile, tap the menu button top right to enable search… happy searching!

  2. I know it’s a trivial point, given the tragedy of Caleb’s death, but I am sure his family and college buddies would appreciate you correcting that Dartmouth College is actually in New Hampshire, not Vermont.
As I said, small point, but even small mistakes seem glaring when in someone’s obituary.
    Many thanks for the correction.

  3. You all have a great blog/site, but please, please, please hire a proof reader. From one person who makes countless grammar errors to the group of you, you are somehow worse than me, and trust me, that says something. Remember it is very hard to edit/ proof read your own writing!

  4. What happened to the squaw valley lift ops article explaining why KSL can’t open lifts on time?

  7. I found on the web Keenan Grady’s Feb. 2016 Ouray CO avalanche photo taken of the East Riverside shed and am seeking permission to use this picture.

I own a small publishing firm in Chicago and am funding a book on rescues that takes place in the San Juan, Colorado Mountains. The book will be dedicated to the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team to help the members raise money. A major goal of the book is to bring attention to the generous volunteering and important work that rescue teams undertake.

Thank you for your time and help in obtaining this photo permission,

  9. “Atomic Skies”

Hey still wondering if you have those atomic rituals for sale still? You were asking 75$ for them? Are they still up for grabs?

  10. SB,

    FAIRBANK GROUP SKI RESORTS SEEK
    HUNDREDS OF INSTRUCTORS THIS SEASON
Ski for Free, Make Money, Share Your Passion for Skiing/Snowboarding at
    Bromley, Cranmore, Jiminy Peak

HANCOCK, Mass. – “Bend ze knees, five dollars pleeze” was once the mantra of the typical ski instructor of the 1950s and 60s, someone with hair like Stein Eriksen’s and a matching Norwegian accent. But today’s ski and snowboarding instructors range in age from 14 to 83 and don’t necessarily have to be black diamond level skiers.
The Fairbank Group resorts – Jiminy Peak in western Massachusetts, Bromley in the Green Mountains of Vermont, and Cranmore Mountain Resort in the White Mountains of New Hampshire – announced ambitious plans to fill 250 ski and snowboard instructor positions by the start of the ski season in late November.
Applications for employment can be found at Bromley.com, Jiminypeak.com or Cranmore.com.

  11. Hi, Bruce! My name is Max Pankov, I have more than 10 years devoted to the study of avalanches. Recent years working in avalanche service in Krasnaya Polyana (Sochi). Saw a lot of your material on Argentina, I will be there in Bariloche, Frey…in August! Was glad to meet, read your books and website! With respect, Мax Pankov

    1. Thanks Max. We’ll be down there all August and September. Bariloche needs lots of help with public Avalanche information. See you there.

  12. Does anyone know if skiing in Verbier, Switzerland is open again this summer (July)?

  13. Thought your viewers may enjoy seeing this 5yrs old ripper shredding pow and jumps in Tahoe backcountry yesterday. Thanks

    1. Well, the snow fall report for Mt. Rainier is great, and Crystal Mountain, encouraging. However, the height of Mt. Rainer is actually 14,411 feet, slightly shorter than Mt. Whitney in California. Do the homework. If you were meaning to say…at the 12,762 foot level of Mt. Rainer, then it would make sense. Just saying!

  14. FYI, someone sent me a link to your website and I notice the avalanche piece where you quote my book, some of the photos don’t have citations, which you are required by law to provide. The top photo is from Mark Gallup. I’m not sure the source of the second photo. His website is MarkGallup.com

    Thanks,

  15. Hey Miles, just got here to Bariloche/damm keyboard can’t get the symbols I want.. Its jennifer from the Hakuba winter thunderstorm bivy club. Thinking frey or heading to volacoes. How’s Frey- now. I’-m at hostal 1004. Have 3 weeks till go back to AK. Random impulsive decision to head this way, Juneau getting darker and rainier by the day, hoping for some sun and good wine at the very least. Suggestions_/ can’t get the question mark to appear. Thanks for any input. Didn’t get you email so thought this would get to you. Jennifer

  16. You used a picture (drawing) of someone breathing…lots of blue in the picture. I am wanting to use something like that for my therapy business cards. Can you give me information on the drawing, how I might be able to get permission to use it, etc. Not sure if that is possible. Thanks!

    1. Hey Charleen, not sure which pic you’re referring to. Send us a link if you can. thanks.

  17. Great site.

Is there anyway to email another poster on this site?

eg, I’ve lost track of the guy who just did the first 2 posts
on the “Bodie Miller Takes Emotional Bronze in Super-G” thread.

  18. I just read an article in our local paper The Daily Townsman in Cranbrook B.C. that stated our local ski hill, Kimberley Alpine Resort, is reported to have the 10th best snowpack in North America!!!…Sounds good but it is all LIES,LIES,LIES. You obviously do not have people checking to see if they are telling the truth, which they are NOT.
I am a hardcore local AND work at the ski hill so I know what is the truth in this matter. KAR does NOT have anywhere near the reported 180+CM base they advertise to the public and anyone else that does not know any better. The person reporting the LIES has no idea how to properly measure and accurately report new snowfall or the base. (Adding new snowfall DIRECTLY to the base is NOT how to correctly keep records!!!!)
All you have to do is compare the total snowfall for the season with the reported base to see that by some miracle snow in Kimberley simply does not settle!!!!……True base amount is 100-110CM as measured accurately by myself……just thought I would let you know!

    1. Hey Dan, we hear you. It’s always interesting how resorts report their numbers. We’re just going off what each place reported. Thanks for the local beta. We’ll be doing another snowpack report soon and we’ll use your numbers provided here for Kimberly.

        1. Hey Don, Thanks for the comment. Yes, I’m aware of the height of Mt. Rainier. I was a mountain guide on Mt. Rainier for years. Thanks much.

  19. hey Miles, I would enjoy seeing photo(s) of your contributors. I see there’s a place for it, nice if your writers put something together so we have a sense of who they are. thx. I like what you’re doing. see you on the hill!

      1. Miles:

I am a snow brains follower and I just posted a ‘pointed’ response to the comment about Squaw not opening terrain.. I have a long ski history as a customer (45+ years), grunt employee (2- years) and volunteer Ski patrol (13 ‘recent’ years and counting). Please let me know if you think that I am out of line. I held back on some history from the Cushing era and tried to express my hope with the future. I think that the posted article was written by a person with an agenda–I hope that the attitude presented is not representative of the new resort environment.

  20. Hi,
My family planned a ski trip in Tahoe for Christmas. I’ve been getting extremely worried after seeing the the 2011 December. On an average season, how much of Squaw, Heavenly, or Northstar could be open by Christmas? Thank You very much!

    Alvin

    1. Hey Alvin,

Don’t be nervous. It’ll be fun no matter what. Tahoe was actually at it’s best in 2011/12 during Xmas. Usually there is plenty of snow around Xmas. To be honest, we usually get really big storms during Xmas/new years that cause all kinds of interesting traffic scenarios.

Also, Squaw now has large snowmaking capabilities now. Regardless of how it breaks down, I think there will be plenty of runs open for you and your family. If you have any other questions just email us: snowbrains1@gmail.com

  21. Hey SnowBrains
Thanks for including us on the list of top resort verticals in North America. I just wanted to point out that Kicking Horse actually boasts 4,133 feet of vertical when you get off on the top of the Stairway To Heaven Chair. Here is a link to our winter stats sheet http://www.kickinghorseresort.com/mountain/information/mountain-stats.aspx
But thanks again for recognizing us!
