Colorado is Getting a New State Park

Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that the 488-acre ranch near Sweetwater Lake will become Colorado’s newest state park. The land features springs, ponds, and rare wetland plants.

The land is located in the northwestern part of the state which borders Utah. The area will be added to the White River National Forest. The White River National Forest obtained the land after securing $8.5 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Polis is optimistic about the recreational ability of the area. “We look forward to working with our partners and Coloradans with the ultimate goal of adding Sweetwater Lake to Colorado’s world-class state park system for fun, conservation, education, and to support job growth for the region,” states Polis. He claims that the area’s goals are to “increase public recreation and protect wildlife and nature,” as reported by The Denver Channel.

“We are creating more opportunities for Coloradans to enjoy the great beautiful outdoors, preserving and conserving our most amazing wild areas and meeting the needs of Coloradans and those across the country and world who love to explore and play here on Colorado’s public lands,” Gov. Jared Polis said Wednesday, per The Colorado Sun.
