Club Med announced the much-anticipated opening of Kiroro Resort for the 22/23 season. Club Med’s majority shareholder Fosun Group purchased the resort along with two hotels in 2021 from Property Perfect. For this coming ski season their first hotel, Club Med Kiroro Peak, will open in December. Club Med Kiroro Peak will follow the typical Club Med all-inclusive model and has a minimum age of 12 years old. Their other hotel offering, Club Med Kiroro Grand, will open in 2023 and will target families with children from two years onwards.
Kiroro Ski Resort is located on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, about 90 minutes from Chitose airport and an hour northeast of Niseko. The ski area is spread out across twin mountains Asari and Nagamine and reaches an elevation of 1,180m (3,871 ft) and is serviced by one gondola and eight chair lifts. It boasts an average snowfall of more than 17 meters (yes, that is 670 inches). Aside from the 23 groomed runs, Kiroro has newly installed backcountry gates that open up to incredible powder bowls. Kiroro Ski Resort was created by Yamaha in the 1980s who sold it to Property Perfect in 2012 who engaged renowned Mountainworks to remodel the master plan in 2015.
While Japanese borders are currently only open to tourists on guided tours, we take this as an indication that Chinese behemoth Fosun Group sees borders opening fully by the start of the 22/23 ski season. Japan currently still has Covid-19 entry requirements with countries/regions classified as red, blue, or yellow having differing requirements. Please check with your travel agent or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan before traveling.
