93% of California is in a severe drought or worse. This drought has been going on for 4 years.
The latest snow surveys are showing the current Sierra Nevada snowpack at only 12% of normal for this time of year.
Squaw Valley received only 4″ of snow between December 31st and February 7th. They’ve gotten a meager 140″ of snow on the upper mountain this winter and only 38″ of snow on the lower mountain this winter.
NOAA’s official March outlook is not pointing to any relief for California. We’ve got our fingers crossed for a Miracle March.

It just doesn’t snow in Cali anymore. Question to the skiers and riders in Tahoe: Have you considered moving to another mountain town because of not having snow? Which towns?
I moved to Eagle, CO a week and a half ago after living in Tahoe since 2001. I just couldn’t take no snow anymore. Now I take the bus to Beaver Creek or Vail everyday. I might move back to Tahoe if it ever really snows again.
