Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Rip’s Ride chairlift is currently undergoing construction to be upgraded to a high-speed quad before the 2022-23 season commences. As part of the improvements, the Riblet double chairs will be removed to make way for speedy, new Leitner-Poma four-seaters.
Now is your chance to own one of these classic ski lifts and a piece of Breck history, as Breckenridge Resort is listing 85 of the old double chairs as part of an online auction. A cherished piece of the legendary mountain, the one-of-a-kind lift, Chair 7: Rip’s Ride, was in service from 1980-2022.
The auction will be held virtually and begin on Monday, October 17, at noon and close 24 hours later. The chairs are expected to sell out and the resort recommends that bidders preregister on the online auction site before the auction kicks off. All proceeds will go toward great causes and money raised from the auction will be donated to a series of local, non-profit organizations including the Summit County Rescue Group, The Summit Foundation, and Vail Resort’s EpicPromise Foundation.
The double chairs are approximately 147 lbs and measure about 50″W x 9’2″H. Unfortunately, Breck will not ship nor hold equipment and chairs will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to the highest bidders at pick-up. If you win a chair, pick-up will be located at Breckenridge Ski Resort and specific information will be provided after you have secured your winning bid and payment has been fulfilled.
