Boreal Mountain Resort has set a great example by installing a 235 kw solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the Woodward Bunker. This is the largest solar project by any California ski resort…hopefully other resorts will follow suit and make solar energy plans of their own.
“The California sun is a beautiful thing,” said Amy Ohran, general manager of Boreal Mountain Resort. “Now we will do more than enjoy it while we partake in our year-round adventure lifestyle offerings. We can convert it into clean energy, which will supply 15 percent of the energy required to power the entire Boreal and Woodward campus.”
With over 300 days of sunshine per year, Tahoe is the perfect place to capitalize on this renewable resource. The system is projected to generate more than 325,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power 30 homes or offset the emissions of 52 cars.
Way to go Boreal!!
In an industry that’s so threatened by the effects of pollution and climate change, it’s encouraging to see a resort taking matters into their own hands. This should be the norm, not the exception.
