Big White Ski Resort will invest $9.4 million in infrastructure improvements ahead of the 2025 winter season, with upgrades aimed at enhancing sustainability, expanding guest services, and modernizing key lift systems. The resort announced the investment Thursday, June 11, calling it a strategic step in its long-term development plan. The focus for this summer includes expanding power and fiber infrastructure to high-use areas, as well as building new child-focused facilities in the village base.
โAll of these enhancements play a role in our long-term vision for modernization,โ Darcy Arnold said, chief operating officer at Big White Ski Resort. โTheyโre strategic investments that support how we want Big White to growโsmarter, more sustainable and always focused on our guests.โ
A major portion of the funding will go toward installing underground power lines to the top of the Ridge Rocket Express. The project will enable future lift modernization, digital signage, and electric heating at the summit. โGetting power to the top of the mountain is always a challengeโthereโs rock, tough terrain and trenching,โ Arnold said in a statement published on the resortโs blog. โThatโs why this work has to happen during the summer. Once completed, itโs a critical step toward lifting our energy systems into the future.โ

The Ridge upgrade is expected to be completed by October, with additional improvements planned through 2026. Work in the Black Forest area will also begin this summer and is scheduled to be finished before the 2025-26 season. Connectivity upgrades are another key focus as well. Fibre optic cables will be extended to several lift terminals, including Ridge, Bullet, Powder, Gem Lake, and Black Forest, improving communications and operations across the resort.
In the village base, the resort is also constructing a new daycare and expanding the kidsโ center. Both facilities will open in the Village Centre Mall on Opening Day, with the new space split evenly between the two programs. โHalf the space will be dedicated to daycare, the other half to the kids center,โ Arnold added.
The resortโs modernization push is part of a broader effort to remain competitive in British Columbiaโs fast-evolving ski industry while maintaining a strong focus on guest experience and operational efficiency.ย
